Prescribers’ Clinical Support System for Opioid Therapies (PCSS-O) is a collaborative project that includes: American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, American Dental Association, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, American Psychiatric Association, American Society for Pain Management Nursing, and International Nurses Society on Addictions.

These organizations will provide training and education on the safe and effective prescribing of opioid medications in the treatment of pain and/or opioid addiction. The focus of this project is to reach prescribers and/or prescribers-in-training from diverse healthcare professions including physicians, nurses, dentists, physician assistants, and pharmacists to offer free, accessible, evidence-based trainings.  The training topics will focus on safe and appropriate prescribing of opioids and to provide peer support to these prescribers.  To reach the largest number of prescribers most cost-effectively and efficiently, we will provide a variety of educational materials dedicated to this topic. The establishment of this national training and mentoring program will help to improve the health and safety of Americans suffering with chronic pain and/or opioid-related addiction.

Physicians' Clinical Support System-Buprenorphine (PCSS-B) is a project that provides training, mentoring, and ongoing educational activities for those offering office-based treatment of opioid dependence.  More information is available on the PCSS-B website.

Funding for this initiative was made possible (in part) by Prescribers' Clinical Support System for Opioid Therapies (1H79TI023439-01) from SAMHSA.  The views expresses in written conference materials or publications and by speakers and moderators do not necessarily reflect the official policies of the Department of Health and Human Services; nor does mention of trade names, commercial practices, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
