About the Webinar: There is clear evidence of the danger of mixing buprenorphine and benzodiazepines. But many physicians prescribe them together and many more patients and people on the street take them. How do benzodiazepines work and how does this impact the danger. This talk will review these topics and some of the literature on combining these drugs. There will be a brief discussion at the end on alternative treatments for the anxious buprenorphine patient.

      Date: June 25, 2014
      Time: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm ET
      Presenter: Jeffrey Bratberg, PharmD
About the Webinar: Pharmacists are an emerging group of clinicians working to prevent opioid overdose death. As the most accessible healthcare provider, pharmacists are ideal partners to identify patients at risk of opioid overdose and furnish naloxone to them as part of a comprehensive intervention to recognize overdose, call 911, perform rescue breathing, administer naloxone, and stay with the patient. In many states, pharmacists can partner with prescribers in collaborative practice agreements (CPA) and initiate naloxone prescriptions under a prescribers’ authority. Several states permit prescriptions for naloxone to be written for caregivers of patients at risk of overdose.
