About the Webinar: Opioid agonists such as morphine and hydrocodone remain a mainstay for treating moderate to severe chronic pain. Their use is not without controversy and debate, primarily around side effects including abuse liability and diversion. Their use is further limited by other side effects including opioid induced bowel dysfunction, nausea and vomiting, and pruritus that can impact patient compliance and satisfaction with therapy. This webinar will provide an update on the pharmacology of the drug class, new insights into acute and chronic effects, strategies to reduce some of the side effects, and recommendations for future studies. Several case studies will also be presented to help illustrate the challenges and opportunities with opioid analgesics.
